Kent rides along with Deputy Montemayor as he begins a patrol shift across La Paz County. The day starts with light moments, including a traffic stop involving a medical worker rushing between jobs. Montemayor handles the situation professionally and courteously, even joking about the woman’s cat riding without a seatbelt. He explains that one of the things he loves most about the job is the variety and the opportunity to interact with different people every day.
Things escalate when Montemayor stops a vehicle with a registration suspended out of Nevada. The driver refuses consent to search, so a K9 team is called to the scene. Once the dog arrives, it alerts to the vehicle. This immediately shifts the tone of the stop. During the search, deputies uncover multiple used meth pipes, burnt foil, a scale, baggies with residue, prescription pills not belonging to the driver, and finally a notable discovery. Inside a purse, they find meth weighing approximately 7.2 grams. The vehicle is towed and the suspect is detained, and deputies credit the K9 for the successful detection.
Kent then highlights Deputy Montemayor’s perspective as a newly certified K9 handler. Montemayor explains the emotional difficulty of enforcing the law while also having empathy for people going through hardship. He discusses the balance between compassion and responsibility that every deputy must maintain.
The episode continues with another stop involving a man with a suspended license, an open container, and clear signs of intoxication. Despite being observed driving moments earlier, the man insists he was not behind the wheel. His story shifts repeatedly and he refuses to cooperate with field sobriety tests. After several attempts to communicate with him, deputies place him under arrest on suspicion of DUI. Kent explains the full process of transport, advisements, and testing that follow.
