In this high intensity episode of Alpha Responder Network, host Kent Shelley rides with La Paz County Sheriff’s Office K9 Sergeant Finch as the team hunts for a wanted man who has been dodging arrest. What starts as a slow, methodical search through trailers and parks explodes into a high speed pursuit through the desert, a foot chase, K9 warnings, and a risky takedown of a suspect who refuses to give up without a run for it.

Episode Breakdown

Kent joins K9 Sergeant Finch and the team as they work the Salome and Quartzsite area looking for a subject with active warrants. The man is known to fight law enforcement and has a history of going hands on when deputies try to contact him. The episode opens with the team slowly clearing multiple trailers and properties, checking doorways, yards, and hiding spots. Each location is quiet or vacant, and the man is nowhere to be found.

The search continues into the next day. Deputies talk with residents and park staff who confirm that the suspect works and stays in the area, but no one has seen him recently. K9 Deputy Lara introduces his partner, Goro, and explains that they are part of the special enforcement unit that has been out for days trying to track this man down. The tone is patient but determined. They are committed to checking every day until they get him in custody and clear the warrant.

The breakthrough comes when a white Dodge pickup matching the suspect’s information appears on the highway. Deputies fall in behind it and attempt a stop. At first it looks like the driver might pull over, but he suddenly accelerates and the chase begins. The truck heads south toward Quartzsite at speeds climbing to 75, 80, then 90 miles per hour on Highway 95. Kent rides along as radio traffic tracks mile markers and updates speed and direction while the pursuit pushes deeper toward open desert.

The suspect turns off onto Cypress Mine Road, then leaves the pavement completely, bouncing through the desert as deputies follow. Eventually the truck reaches a fence line and comes to a stop. The suspect jumps out and runs on foot. Deputies flood the area on foot while K9 warnings echo across the desert. Deputy Lara shouts repeated commands, telling the suspect to stop or the dog will be sent. The man finally gives up, drops to the ground, and is taken into custody at gunpoint while Goro holds back behind the line.

Once handcuffed, the suspect learns just how badly he has made things for himself. He is told that he started with a misdemeanor warrant but now faces new felony charges for fleeing from law enforcement. He complains about pain in his shoulder and mutters that he feels like he killed someone, even though he did not. He blames the warrant as “false” and worries that the truck’s owner will be furious. Deputies stay calm, get him water and Gatorade after the chase, and explain that the warrant came from missing court.

A search of his pockets reveals marijuana joints and a broken meth pipe with residue. Deputies then go through the truck and find more paraphernalia, including a baggie with a white crystalline substance and a “meth kit” tucked among everyday items like frozen fries and frozen lasagna that he never got to eat. The truck is secured so the owner can retrieve it, while the suspect is transported to jail on his original warrant and new charges for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of suspected meth, and fleeing from law enforcement.

The episode closes with Kent highlighting the teamwork between Sergeant Finch, Deputy Lara, K9 Goro, and the rest of the unit. After days of searching, patient groundwork, and careful coordination, they finally locate the suspect, chase him down, and safely bring him into custody without injuries to deputies or the dog. Goro gets praise and affection for his role in the operation, a reminder of how valuable K9 units are when wanted suspects choose to run.
